Writing cannot be one size fits all. As students begin searching for coverage, they often look to other publications for ideas. But what happens when other populations don’t reflect the diversity of their own school? How can advisers coach students to find their own stories and tell them in their own voices? They may have an opportunity to tap into students’ translanguaging skills and heritage storytelling traditions, which can help build writing confidence and a publication customer base. This session focuses on the why and how of coaching students to tell original, authentic stories.
