This session will engage students in thinking about the main purpose of visual journalism and the different ethical dimensions to consider. Topics will include the duties of visual journalists and real-world examples of offenses that got visual journalists fired, which will serve as jumping-off points for discussion. The presentation will also cover how GenAI is impacting visual journalism and test the audience's ability to detect AI-generated photos from real photos.
