The First Amendment: What it means and what it doesn't

Session Information

The plain text of the First Amendment has been part of our Constitution –– the supreme law of the land –– for over 200 years. Journalists should be familiar with what it says, and the freedoms and rights it protects. Additionally, over the last two centuries scholars and the courts have worked to apply the First Amendment across a wide range of media forms and content the founders scarcely imagined. In this session, you will learn about what the First Amendment says and what it means for students and journalists today.
